[Explicit] A Woman I Don't Even Know

[Contains explicit language.]

Flouting my "Family" designation in the directories at Democracy and iTunes with this one, a letter to a friend's new paramour.

The profanity or two won't bug most viewers, but the boy does have a few fans in the under-10 set.

I tried to paste in the .gif of the little man from the Chronicle clapping, but you can't post images here.

As much as I love physical comedy, and the Boy excels at that, you've got him beat in the verbal arena by a mile.

And least in terms of quantity. And velocity. And articulation.

Wow! The phrase 'How's that for a how do you do?' comes to mind. That beats a handshake any day of the week!

As one working through some really crappy bullshit right now, thanks for the analogy (I watch Dr. Phil from time to time, but I'd not heard that description.... my favorite Dr. Phil Quote is "And how's that workin' for ya?").

Because Dooser asked, I will list the bullshit I have identified in this video to date:

1. I haven't watched Dr. Phil in months, because I detest how the show is structured, edited, promoted, and sexed up. I like to but can't honestly blame his producers, because he is so totally in a position to overrule them.

2. For most of my life I have been patient--to the point of passive aggressivity--in interpersonal matters. At times in the workplace I have adopted the more directly confrontational style seen here.

3. But this of course only appears to be a direct address, when in fact directness would require me actually engaging in face-to-face dialogue. A video monologue, like an email or written letter, protects one's self with distance and time from having to face the real and immediate consequences of the communication. It seeks to control the conversation by permitting no response from the recipient. Sure, in blogs there's the ability to comment, but it is hardly commensurate.

4. Moreover, by creating and publishing a video to my blog and its accompanying RSS feed, I am publicly airing what I am at the same time purporting to be an awkward personal matter.

5. And while the friend alluded to within the video has, in fact, been working on the same screenplay for more than twelve years, my investment in him completing it and getting it produced is founded almost wholly upon projection and the frustration of my own desires in not having achieved success with my own first feature.

Maybe I'll continue this in a video.
