LIGHTNING ROUND

A new feature added to the 8th Edition party in 2004, once I began assembling the party in advance. Clips must be 20 seconds or less, and I stitch them together in rapid succession, a lá an Academy Awards clip reel.

While the Lightning Round was originally conceived as a gimmick (to spice up the more-structured, less spontaneous format), I've become quite fond of it in my own clip searches. All too often I rent a movie, remembering a moment and thinking it might make a good clip, and yet upon closer examination just doesn't work. Pulling out twenty seconds from the scene allows me to "name-check" the moment without having to submit a substandard clip (as Tim did effectively in year 10, with the cropduster attack from NORTH BY NORTHWEST). The best Lightning Rounds will be a mix of these classic moments, plus throwaway jokes, striking images, sight gags, stunts, spoilers, quips, and catch phrases.
